Managing Members
Any student who attends your club or society sessions must be a paid member. This ensures that they are insured under LTSU’s policies, have the right to nominate and vote, but more importantly provide value back into the club or society.
LTSU can send you your membership list, so please ask your LTSU support staff member to source this for you.
Although we want leading a club or society to be as fun as possible, sometimes you may encounter difficulties with you members or fellow committee members. It’s important to remember to not take the weight of these concerns on your shoulders solely – LTSU staff are always her to help, so please come forward with any concerns.
There are also several free services on campus that may benefit you and your members. Our team can discuss these more in depth with you, but feel free to reach out to them directly below:
Leeds Trinity Students’ Union offers independent third-party advice through our SU Advice service. Our SU Advisor can advise and support students regarding mental health, housing, academic issues, sexual health, and general well-being services. You can email our advisor, ltsuadvice@leedstrinity.ac.uk. You can also drop into his office AG-7A or book an appointment online here.
Alternatively, you can approach the university’s Student Support systems, including Student Support (studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk, or 07458 109288) or the Student Mental Health and Well-being Team. You may self-refer to the Student Mental Health and Well-being service via the MyLTU app or email studentwellbeing@leedstrinity.ac.uk. You can contact all support systems using the MyLTU app.
Committee Roles
All clubs and societies are required to have 3 committee members minimum. These must be a president/chair, a treasurer, one other of your choosing. You may choose to add/remove roles to your committee, please discuss this with your LTSU Coordinator to confirm.
Here are role descriptions for the standard roles you would expect to see in a club or society committee. We advise you using these as guidance, as a committee you may decide to add or remove responsibilities to ensure the smooth running if your group.

Committee Elections
Leeds Trinity Students' Union is a democratic organisation. Each year around January/February, committee roles become available in the Club and Society elections. Any paid member of a club or society is eligible to nominate themselves for a role on the committee and vote when the time comes.
Your voice, Your power, Your vote.
Becoming a committee member does not just help your group. It is a unique personal development opportunity that can lay the groundwork for your future career. All elected committee members are supported with training and have a dedicated LTSU staff member to help guide you through the year.
All committees must succeed in electing a President/Chair, Treasurer and one other role. Failure to do so may mean the closure of the group. So as a current committee member, it’s important to think about your legacy and developing your members to taking a lead.
If you want to hear more about elections, please reach out to your LTSU staff member.
SAC (Student Activities Committee)
SAC is the Student Activities Committee. This group is made up of three society committee members and three club committee members who are elected in at the start of the year (think Avengers but probably not as cool or dangerous).
Meetings can happen around once a month and are organised by the Vice-President who chairs the committee and helps direct the team overall. We’d like to think there is a huge benefit of becoming an elected member of SAC committee. You get to comment on key themes effecting group members and make decisions on the direction of relevant LTSU activity, such as:
- Applications for New Clubs or Societies
- Adoptions of previous Clubs or Societies
- SAC Grant Applications
- Varsity
- LTSU Awards
- Sustainability
