Storm Board - a company in Somerset that builds boards from the plastic pellets. Bottle Boards can then be made into waterproof furniture – from wall claddings to chairs and benches. This is where Lush sends all their bottle tops that get donated. StUdio getting rid of old stock in move to becoming free of plastic bottles. The Bottle Top Campaign is now on the website and students can now engage with campaign. Chris Dow (Vice President) and Lucy Smith (Representation and Democracy Coordinator) are looking into ordering a new deposit bin and exploring different ideas for engagement. StUdio has begun the steps in taking a plastic free approach with the non-sale of any plastic bottles in the venue. Next Step is single use plastics.

Chris Dow (Vice President) and Lucy Smith (Representation and Democracy Coordinator) have met around the Bottle Top campaign 2020/2021 and hoping to launch this October through marketing. Building on from last years magnificent efforts we hope to deposit more Bottle Tops than ever before and grow the campaign
Approximately 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally each year, with bottle caps amongst the top five biggest contributors to plastic pollution. The heavy duty plastic that bottle tops are made from can take many years to break down, wreaking havoc on marine animals and wildlife in the meantime.
How:
Small plastic bottle tops made from any plastic compound (bottle caps, milk, soft drinks, sports cap drinks, fabric softener caps) can be brought to your local Lush store for collection.
They’ll whisk them away to their Green Hub in Poole where they’re broken down into pellets ready to be sent to Storm Board - a company in Somerset that builds boards from the plastic pellets.
Bottle Boards can then be made into waterproof furniture – from wall claddings to chairs and benches. They've been used to make a play area at a refugee camp in France, and you might even spot them adorning the units and tabletops in Lush stores!
Aim:
Here at Leeds Trinity Students' Union we aim to recyle as many bottle tops as possible by the end of the 2020/2021 academic year.
Last Year:
Last year Chris SU vp delivered over 2000 bottle tops to our local Lush store in Leeds City Centre.
